Mayor Ronald E. Jones
City of Garland

Ronald E. Jones was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He earned his Baccalaureate Degree
from Dallas Baptist University, and a Master of Science Degree in Human Relations and
Business Management from Abilene Christian University.

Ronald Jones was elected Mayor of Garland in 2007.  After his retirement in May 2005, he
served as Management Consultant to the City Manager and helped setup a Relief Center for
the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Jones also served as parliamentarian to the Mayor and City
Council prior to his announcement to run for the Office of Mayor.

Mayor Jones was the Assistant City Manager for the City of Garland for five and one-half years of
the 29 years that he served in city government.  He had cumulative oversight of over 14
departments during his tenure with the City.  He is a graduate of the first Leadership Garland
Class. He served as an adjunct professor of business for 10 years at El Centro College in
Dallas.  Mayor Jones currently serves as Associate Pastor at New Hope Baptist Church.  He is
also a certified mediator, a certified temperament counselor, and a member of the National
Association of Parliamentarians.  As a Professional Clinical Member of the National Christian
Counselors Association, he leads the counseling ministry at his church.

Mayor Jones’ civic involvement includes the Kiwanis Club of Garland, Board member of
Garland Civic Theater and The Achievement Center, past Board member of New Beginnings
Center; member of Garland Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Garland Asian
American Task Force, Life member of PTA and NAACP, Chair of the North Texas Commission
Leadership North Texas Selection Committee, Board of Directors for North Texas Commission,
Board Member for the Regional Transportation Council, University of Texas at Dallas Institute of
Public Affairs Advisory Council, Metroplex Mayor’s Association, Garland Association For
Hispanic Affairs, the  Luna Elementary School Campus Improvement Team and the Garland
Landmark Society.

Mayor Jones is in demand as a speaker and trainer. He is also a gifted artist, a devoted
husband of forty years, an honorable father of two sons, one of which is an attorney, and the
second son is a licensed minister and former NFL football player.   He has two lovely daughter-
in-laws, six adorable granddaughters and the newest addition, a grandson.
